Hollow Park
Master PlanIn August of 2023, Hedlund Design Group was tasked with creating a master plan for Hollow Park in the Town of Woodbury, CT.
Hollow Park is a 70-acre open space that is the “crown jewel” of Woodbury. It has some remarkable features including the Pomperaug River, Hollow Pond, athletic fields, and a central pavilion.
The master plan proposes phased improvements over the next 20 years to increase accessibility, manage stormwater runoff, and make the park more welcoming. These improvements include naturalizing Hollow Pond and providing access to it with a new dock and walking paths. Vehicular improvements are made to the central parking area to both increase parking capacity and decrease the overall impervious area with a more efficient parking layout.
New recreation facilities include a new basketball and pickleball courts, as well as upgrades to the existing fields. At the heart of the park a new amphitheater will provide a seating area for outdoor summer concerts.
Hedlund Design Group teamed with Horsley Witten Group for civil engineering support for this project, which was completed in June of 2024.
